1. Scope of This Policy
This privacy policy applies specifically to the EDUwidgets Chrome browser extension (the "Extension"), published on the Chrome Web Store by The EdTech Way.
The EdTech Way is a sole proprietorship registered in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce no. 87783096), specializing in educational technology training and tools.
This document serves as the English-language companion to the full Dutch privacy statement of The EdTech Way, which is the legally binding version and is available at theedtechway.com.
2. Data We Collect
None. EDUwidgets does not collect any personal data whatsoever. Specifically:
- No personal information — We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any identifiers.
- No usage analytics — We do not track which features you use, how often you use them, or how long you use them.
- No browsing data — We do not read, record, or transmit the content of any webpage you visit.
- No cookies — The extension does not read or write browser cookies.
- No telemetry — There are no crash reports, heartbeat signals, or diagnostic data sent from the extension.
3. How Your Data Is Stored
All user-generated data — such as class lists for the Name Picker, spinner labels, timer presets, and widget settings — is stored exclusively using the Chrome browser's built-in local storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data:
- Remains entirely on your device.
- Is never synced to any cloud service or external server.
- Is never accessible to The EdTech Way or any third party.
- Can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in Chrome settings.
4. Chrome Extension Permissions Explained
EDUwidgets requests a minimal set of browser permissions. Here is a transparent explanation of each:

5. Network Requests
The EDUwidgets extension makes no outbound network requests to external servers. It does not use fetch(), XMLHttpRequest, WebSockets, or any other networking API to communicate with remote services.
For versions up to 2.0.5, the only external resource loaded was Google Fonts (the "Inter" typeface) to render the extension's popup interface. Starting with version 2.0.6, all fonts are bundled locally within the extension package itself, making the extension operate 100% offline with zero outbound network requests of any kind.
No user data, widget settings, class lists, or browsing information is ever included in any request.
6. Third-Party Services
EDUwidgets does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party service, analytics platform, advertising network, or data broker. The extension contains no third-party JavaScript libraries.
The extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store, which is operated by Google and subject to Google's own terms and privacy policies.
7. Children's Privacy & Educational Compliance
EDUwidgets is designed as a classroom instruction tool for teachers. It is intended to be operated by educators, not directly by students.
GDPR Compliant
As no personal data is processed, there is no data processing activity that falls under the scope of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG) with respect to the extension.
COPPA Compatible
Because EDUwidgets collects zero personal information from any user — including children under 13 — it is fully compatible with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
FERPA Compatible
EDUwidgets does not access, transmit, or store student education records. Class lists entered by teachers are stored locally on the teacher's device only. No "school official" data sharing occurs.
Student names entered in features like the Name Picker or Spinner are stored exclusively in the browser's local storage on the teacher's device. These names are never transmitted, synced, or accessible to The EdTech Way.
8. Data Retention
Since EDUwidgets does not collect or transmit any data, there is no server-side data retention.
Locally stored data (widget settings, class lists) persists on your device until you:
- Manually clear it within the extension's settings.
- Remove the extension from Chrome.
- Clear Chrome's extension storage via browser settings.
9. Extension Updates
Extension updates are delivered automatically through the Chrome Web Store's standard update mechanism. This process is managed entirely by Google Chrome and does not involve any data collection by The EdTech Way.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to the extension or applicable regulations. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated "Last Modified" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

11. Parent Privacy Statement

This English-language policy is a dedicated companion document for the EDUwidgets extension. In case of any discrepancy, the Dutch-language statement prevails for matters governed by Dutch and EU law.
